Printer makes strange noises when the power is turned
on and the error lights blink

Has the carriage packing material been removed?

Refer to Chapter 1 of this guide for details.

Has the packing tape on the case been removed?

There are three pieces of tape on the front of the printer that help protect
the printer during shipping. Gently remove the tape before using the printer.

Has an ink cartridge become dislodged from the ink cartridge holder?

Open the front cover and make sure the ink cartridges are correctly in-
stalled.

Is there paper caught between the platen and the print head?

See the section “Clearing paper jams” and remove the paper.

“Missing ink cartridges” message appears. Are all the necessary colors
of ink cartridge installed in the printer?

Color printing requires that four colors of ink cartridge (yellow, magenta,
cyan, and black) are installed with the ALPS logo (B side) facing up.

Are you trying to do monochrome printing in Automatic mode?

If Automatic is selected in Document Type, color ink cartridges must be
installed even when printing monochrome. If you want to print using only
black ink, select Monochrome Picture or Monochrome Text.

Are the ink cartridges correctly installed?

If an ink cartridge has become dislodged from the holder, an ink cartridge
change error will occur. Open the front cover and reinstall the ink cartridge.

Are you using the printer on a level surface?

The printer will not operate correctly on a slanted surface. Place it on a
level, stable surface.

Is the printer in a place where it is subject to bumps or vibrations?

Bumps and vibrations can cause mechanical problems. Place the printer in
a place free from vibrations and bumping.

Is the front cover properly closed?

The printer will not operate correctly if the front cover is not closed correctly.
Close the front cover all the way.

Is something sitting on top of the printer?

The printer may malfunction when there are things stacked on top or press-
ing it from the side. Do not place anything on top of the printer.
