Using KONA with
Avid Liquid
Chrome™ XE The Avid Liquid Chrome XE product comes bundled with a KONA LHe card for media
capture and playback. No AJA plug-ins are necessary for Liquid Chrome operation—
however, for you to use other applications (including Machina)with KONA, you will need to
install the necessary KONA pluggins and drivers using the supplied AJA software CD.
Sony Vegas + DVD Sony Vegas + DVD Production Suite support for KONA 3, LHe, and LSe/LS cards allows you
to capture, edit, monitor, and print-to-tape using SDI (serial digital interface) professional
SD and HD decks. Multichannel audio, mixed timecode handling, 1080 24p capture and
export, and component monitoring are also supported.
Additionally, the combination of Sony Vegas 9 and AJA KONA cards allows users to capture
MXF files in Sony’s 50 Mb/s HD MPEG 4:2:2 format which is analogous to the XDCam EX
format. This is great for compressed offline or online editing, or for archiving video in a very
small, yet high-quality file.

Media NXS
The Media NXS software-based digital disk recorder application supports KONA 3, LHi, and
LSe/LS cards for uncompressed capture and playback. Media NXS supports a wide range of
hardware platforms including Uncompressed 8/10-Bit Y’CrCb and video standards ranging
from NTSC/PAL to 1080x1920 HDTV.
Sonic CineVision Sonic CineVision is a comprehensive encoding solution for the Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD
optical disc formats. It supports a wide range of file and image sequence input files.
CineVision offers complete support for all three next-generation video codecs—H.264/AVC,
VC-1 and MPEG-2. AJA’s KONA LHe card is a CineVision recommended peripheral for
uncompressed capture/playback.

Note: For users who want to use both the CineForm Premiere Pro plugins for compressed
workflow and the KONA Premiere Pro plugins for uncompressed workflow:
Because the CineForm Prospect HD plugins are dependent on older versions of the AJA
Hardware drivers, it is necessary to have a dual-boot configuration if both Prospec/Neo and
KONA plugins will be used. The KONA plugins must be installed on one bootable partition,
and the CineForm plugins installed on the other.
