PAN6400 VDC IR Storage and Access

The PAN6400 VDC has 40 source memory locations and 60 display memory
locations, 10 for each source and display. Each of these memory locations is stored
separately. Any button on a source or display original remote that executes a single
command can be learned into a memory location. However, a memory location cannot
store a macro.

Each of the Panorama remote’s 10 definable buttons accesses two memory locations:
one for the selected source and one for the selected display. If there is an IR command
in both memory locations, both commands are executed. If only one memory location
has a stored IR command, it is the only one executed.

Because each definable button executes both a display and source IR command,
carefully consider how you learn IR. It could be an advantage, for example, if you
learn the power command for each display and source into button 0. Then whichever
source and display are selected turn off and on together. Note that power buttons are
usually a toggle, so if one device is already on, you could turn off the display when you
turn on the source.

If you learn a display power command and a source play command into the same
button, you could turn off a display at the same time you start a DVD. The two
commands that are executed depend on which source and display are selected.

To avoid any unwanted overlap, learn source and display IR commands into separate
buttons.

Examples

A residential installation uses a PAN6400 VDC with a VP700 Video Port to provide
IR pass-through from the display end to the source. A universal remote learns all the
IR codes for each source and display. NetStreams Panorama system passes the IR
information to the appropriate source from a Video Port or to the appropriate display
from the headend.

A pub provides various sporting events with a PAN6400 VDC behind the bar and
many displays connected with VP500 Video Ports. Basic display IR codes such as
power on/off and aspect ratio are learned. Two buttons on the Panorama remote
access these display IR commands, leaving eight definable buttons for source
commands. The bartender can control both sources and displays from the Panorama
remote without any overlap issues.

A restaurant provides sports and news over displays located around the dining area.
The displays are connected with VP500 Video Ports and the PAN6400 VDC is
located in the locked manager’s office. Only source IR codes are learned. The
manager uses a Panorama remote in the office to control the sources and the waitstaff
manually turn off the displays when the restaurant closes.

PAN6400 VDC LED Meaning

While in the PAN6400 VDC is in IR learning mode, the LEDs on the front of the unit
provide information to assist you in monitoring the learning process.
