Standalone Installations

Most standalone installations benefit more from learning source IR codes than display
IR codes. The following example may help further illustrate the simplicity of
programming IR for the PAN6400 VDC.

Example

You have a standalone configuration and want to program in the play and pause
commands for the DVD player, and the on and off commands for the display.

After you hook up the NetStreams Panorama system following the instructions in

Configuring a Single PAN6400 VDC

on page 3-1, get the Panorama, DVD, and

display remotes and go to the headend. Point the Panorama remote at the VDC and
hold the MENU button on the Panorama remote until the LEDs on the PAN6400
VDC flash.

To program the DVD, which is connected as Source 1, press the up arrow on the
Panorama remote until the Power button turns red. Verify the first LED under the
Displays group is lit, indicating you are programming Source 1.

Press the Pause button (button #1) on the Panorama remote. The second LED under
the Sources group lights, indicating success.

Switch to the OEM remote supplied with the DVD player, point it at the VDC, and
press the pause button. When the third LED under the Sources group comes on, press
the pause button again. After the fourth LED comes on and all four LEDs in the
Source group are lit, the IR code has been successfully learned and the function
assigned to the Panorama remote.

Repeat the procedure for the play button. To program the on and off commands for the
display, press the up arrow on the Panorama remote until the Power button turns
green, indicating you are programming a display. Repeat the rest of the procedure,
pressing the appropriate power buttons.

Testing IR Integration

Learn an IR code according to the procedure outlined above.

To test IR pass-through abilities, point the source remote at the VP700 IR Emitter and
press a button. The IR code should pass through the Video Port, the PAN6400 VDC,
and arrive at the source which performs the action selected on the remote.

To test the IR commands stored in the PAN6400 VDC, point the Panorama remote at
the VP700 and press a button that learned a source command into the PAN6400 VDC.
The source should perform the action selected on the remote.

Cascade Mode

In a standalone installation in cascade mode, you learn and store the display IR codes
in the PAN6400 VDC connected to the display through a Video Port. Therefore, each
PAN6400 VDC stores IR codes for some of the displays.

Learn and store the source IR codes in the PAN6400 VDC the IR Emitters are
connected to.
