Disconnect the Upper Ball Joint
Remove the cotter pin from the upper ball joint stud. Use a wrench to loosen the castle nut that
secures the upper ball joint to the spindle. Do not remove the castle nut entirely. Using a heavy
hammer, hit the upper portion of the spindle to break loose the ball joint stud from the spindle. The
weight of suspension and preload of the spring with the impact of the hammer should break loose the
tapered press fit of the ball joint stud from the spindle. You may want to spray the stud area with
penetrating oil if you’re having a difficult time breaking it loose.
