Metering Roll Servicing

This dryer is equipped with SCR metering roll drive assembly including a variable speed DC motor.

Main Controls

1. SCR Speed control 7" (FFI): Maximum speed (999 setting) is 4.3 RPM.

2. DC Electric motor: After a period of inactivity, the brushes on the DC motor may need releasing.

This can be done with a light tap on the side of the motor with a rubber mallet.

3. Speed reducer gearbox: No adjustment necessary. Provide light lubrication to the chain drive.

4. If a foreign object jams the metering rolls, the unloading auger will continue until the dryer

shuts down (2 minute).

Check the cause of stoppage:

Remove chain from drive - beware that the chain may be under tension.

Attempt to rotate metering rolls with a pipe wrench.

If rolls rotate then the stoppage is caused by damage to the drive train.

How to Clear a Jammed Meter Roll (All Power “OFF”)

Attempt to release by back and forth rotation of the roll using a pipe wrench on the drive hub.

If this does not release, locate the blockage and access via access doors inside the plenum.

Keep hands away from sprocket teeth to avoid injury from chain backlash, as a
result of torsion build up in the system caused by the jam.
