5 Cnt Ac-S Z configuration

This chapter provides instructions for configuring Continuous Access Synchronous Z.

Configuration workflow

You must have Storage Administrator (Remote Copy) role to perform most Continuous Access
Synchronous Z operations using Remote Web Console.

Configuration consists of the following operations:

Check prerequisites for each procedure.

See

“Planning pairs and pair volumes” (page 34)

.

On the primary and secondary system, install the data paths. See

“Data path requirements

and configurations” (page 46)

.

On primary and secondary system, configure the initiator and RCU target ports Fibre Channel
ports that will be used for Continuous Access Synchronous Z operations. See

“Ports” (page 49)

and

“Defining port attributes” (page 59)

for details.

On the primary system, create the Continuous Access Synchronous Z association with the
secondary system. See

“Setting up primary and secondary systems for Cnt Ac-S Z” (page 60)

.

Remote paths between the systems are added during this procedure.

You may also perform these additional procedures prior to the initial copy:

Add additional remote paths. See

“Configuring additional remote paths” (page 86)

.

Specify the number of volumes to copy at one time. See

“Setting # of vols. copied, path

blockade, other options” (page 62)

.

Defining port attributes

Initiator and RCU target ports must be set up on the primary and secondary system for Continuous
Access Synchronous Z command and data transfer.

Prerequisite information

Storage Administrator (System Resource Management) is required.

The number of hosts connected to a target port must be limited to 128 or fewer to avoid
disconnection.

See

“Ports” (page 49)

for information about target, initiator, and RCU target ports.

If you are changing a target port to an initiator port, prepare the port for the change as follows:

Confirm that the port is offline.

Disconnect the port from the host.

Remove all channel paths to the port.

If you are changing an initiator port to target or RCU target port, prepare the port for the
change as follows:

Release all pairs using the ports.

Delete the paths from the initiator port to the secondary storage system.

Delete the secondary storage system from the Cnt Ac-S Z relationship. See

“Deleting

Continuous Access Synchronous Z” (page 90)

.
