If . . .

The installer should . . .

The 5157 drive does not power
up

The 5157 drive has no power.

Check the 5157 drive cord
connections with the 5157
power switch off.

All right-side or all left-side
indicators on the front panel
blink

A drive fault has occurred.

Try to unload the tape and
reinitialize the drive by
pressing off and then on again.
The right-side or left-side
indicators stop blinking and
the drive tries to reinitialize.
The indicators turn on steady
and go off if the test succeeds.

Fatal or nonfatal errors are
found for which no cause can
be determined

The bus termination or SCSI
signal cable connections might
be incorrect.

The AC power source
Grounding might be incorrect.

Ensure the SCSI bus is
terminated.


Use an AC outlet for the 5157
drive on the same AC line
powering the system.


After taking the action listed in Table 3-4, power on the 5157 to return
POST. If all right-or left-side indicators blink again, the drive has
hardware failure.
