Offline port diagnostic tests are available for external ports (0–3) and internal ports
(4–7). Offline tests disrupt data traffic. Performing an offline test automatically
places the port in diagnostics mode, and then the port is reset after the test is
complete. There are two types of offline port tests: internal and external.

An internal test sends a test frame from the ASIC through the SerDes chip
and back to the ASIC for the selected port. The internal port test is available
for all ports (0–7).

An external test sends a test frame from the ASIC through the SerDes chip,
through the SFP transceiver fitted with an external loopback plug, and back
to the ASIC for the selected port. External port tests are available only for
external ports (0–3).

To test a port, do the following:

1.

Select a port in the faceplate display.

2.

Open the Port menu, and then select Port Diagnostics > Other Port
Diagnostics
to open the Port Diagnostics dialog (

).

Keep the selected port or choose a new port from the Select Port:
drop-down list.
