12.3 ASCII (Sierra) Protocol for 3232A Series Switcher
To use the ASCII protocol, you need to select it via the machine front panel
buttons.
Use the MENU button to enter the configuration menu and choose
PROTOCOL (see
Section 9.5 ). Select the ASCII option and press the
blinking TAKE button to accept the change. The new protocol selection is
saved in non-volatile memory

To verify that the protocol has been selected, and that communication is OK,
send the following string:
**!!
The machine should reply by sending the following string:
** OK !!
In case of an unused or wrong command, the router replies as follows:
** ERROR !!
The router supports a string of up to 31 characters (excluding ** and !!)
The router detects the start of a new command (**) in the middle of a string
and restarts the parsing from this point on. All the characters prior to the new
start are ignored.
12.3.1 ASCII Protocol Available Commands
"I": Capabilities Inquiry
The command "I" requests that command capability information be returned to the
host.
The command: ** I!!
returns the following string:
** ILOSQUXYPTG~ OK !!
indicating that the router supports the I, L, O, S, Q, U, X, Y, P, T, G commands from
the host.
"Q": Model Name and Software Version Inquiry
The command "Q" requests that the router model name and software version number
string be returned to the host.
The command: ** Q!!
returns the following string:
** QVS-3232A~V1.2~ OK !!
indicating that the router name is VS-3232A and current software version is 1.2
