Installation Notes

See Figure 6-14: “Oil Seal Breakdown, “X” Series” on page 6-32.

To install, follow the preceding steps in the reverse order, paying
attention to the following:

Review preceding section “Installation Notes, “beginning on
page 6-32.

The matched angular contact bearing pair must be assembled
with the large faces of the inner race apart from each other.

The pinion gear, shaft key and bearing may be assembled by
hand but may prove to be a tight fit.

Install the shims, if equipped, before adding the screw (C) and
washer. Shims may be required to ensure the shaft assembly
spins freely when installation is complete.

Insert the shaft assembly into the seal housing and secure into
position with the oil seal housing and O-ring, as described in
heading “Installation Notes,” beginning on page 6-32.

Intermediate Shaft Assembly

See Figure 6-16: “Intermediate Shaft Assembly, “X” Series.” Also
see Figure 6-15: “Oil Seal Breakdown, “X” Series” on age 6-31.

Removal

To remove the intermediate shaft assembly, the upper housing
assembly (pump shaft assembly) must be removed to gain
access.

1. First, review preceding section “Before You Begin...,” begin-

ning on page 6-1.

2. Review preceding section “Upper Housing Assembly” on page

6-33 to gain access to the intermediate shaft assembly. Also
see Figure 6-16: “Intermediate Shaft Assembly” on page 6-35.

3. Remove the screw (A) and washer securing the intermediate

shaft within the gearbox housing.

4. Carefully remove the intermediate gear shaft from the gearbox

housing, starting from the rear to the front.

5. Reach into the top of the housing and remove the intermediate

gear spacer and the intermediate gear and bearing assembly.
