Liquid Fertilizer System Elements

Refer to Figure 45 on page 56
Callout numbers

through

are consistent throughout this
manual and refer only to liquid
fertilizer system components.

L11. Inlet cap
Latch this captive cap in the inlet
except when loading and unloading
material. See “Loading Liquid
Fertilizer (Option)
” on page 38.

L12. Inlet quick coupler
This 2 inch fitting has camming arms
to secure hoses for loading and
unload material.

L13. Inlet valve
keep this valve closed at all times
when not loading or unloading
material. Close it before attaching or
detaching the cap or a hose.

L14. Supply tank
This tank holds 750 gallons (2800
liters) of pre-mixed liquid fertilizer.

L15. Tank sight gauge
Provides visible indication of
remaining material in the tank.

L16. Tank vent/cap
For tank inspection, loading and
wash-out, remove the entire tank
cap, or just the center section.

L17. Tank supply valve
Open for application or boom flush.
Keep closed for material loading,
unloading and transport.

L18. Strainer inlet valve
Normally left open. Close for strainer
cleaning or mesh replacement.

L19. Strainer
Prevents large particles from
damage the pump or clogging orifice
plates and nozzles. See “Liquid
Fertilizer Strainer
” on page 111.

L20. CDS-John Blue

®

pump

The pump is driven by the ground
drive wheel

at a rate determine

by the range sprocket

, and

adjuster

setting. See Seed Rate

Manual (411-020B) for details.

L21. Pump rate adjuster
This dial (on pump face away from
page) provides fine adjustment of
pump rate. A tool is provided on the
drive assembly.

L22. Ground drive
The pump is powered by a ground
contact wheel. This wheel is out of
ground contact when the planter is
raised. If not applying fertilizer, it
may be locked-up (page 44).

L23. Range sprocket
One of two sprockets provides
coarse (Low vs. High range) control
of application rate.

L24. Manifold
A tee and a cross divide the pump
output for left and right boom,
pressure gauge and relief valve.

L25. Gauge protector
Transmits boom pressure to the
gauge, but prevents caustic fertilizer
from reaching the gauge.

L26. Pressure gauge
When applying material, this gauge
displays the boom pressure. See the
Seed Rate Manual (411-020B) for
range recommendations.

L27. Relief valve
This valve sets the boom pressure
(typically 85 psi) above which the
pump and nozzles will be protected
against over-pressure. See the
Seed Rate Manual (411-020B) for
setting instructions.

L28. Over-pressure dump line
If boom pressure exceeds the
setting of the relief valve, excess
material is sent to the dump line and
deposited on the ground.

L29. Boom
There are separate boom lines for
each wing, interconnected at the
manifold tee.

L30. Nozzle body
Booms are provisioned with the
maximum number of nozzle bodies
(row count) that the frame width
supports. Nozzles not in use are
capped at the factory.

L31. Orifice plate
Standard nozzles regulate pressure
at each row, and balance pressure
across the boom, by use of orifice
plates. Three standard sizes are
supplied. See Seed Rate Manual
(411-020B) for details and charts.

L32. Orifice gasket
The orifice plate is secured inside
this gasket.

L33. Nozzle
The standard nozzle holds the
orifice gasket in place.

L34. VeriFlow nozzle (option)
See page 129. Replaces

,

and

. Using this alternate nozzle

eliminates orifice plate changes over
a wide range of rates.

L35. Delivery tubing
Although a coulter is depicted,
fertilizer maybe delivered to the
opener or a Keeton

®

seed firmer.

L36. Fertilizer tine
The tine is height-adjustable (see
page 69). Above-ground release is
recommended.

L37. Applicator nozzle
A size 040 nozzle is standard.
Alternate sizes are available.

L38. Unused tap nozzle cap
Additional caps are available for
operations with alternate row
spacings.

L39. Boom cap
Remove for boom flush.
