3S-3000 Three-Section Folding Drill 195-144M

Great Plains Mfg., Inc.

Tractor Requirements

To operate your Great Plains 30 ft 3 section drill in most
field conditions, a tractor with a minimum of 125 horse-
power should be used. To utilize the constant down pres-
sure floating opener frame feature, the tractor must be
equipped with CLOSED CENTER HYDRAULICS which
can provide live hydraulic power to the remote pressure
control valves located in the opener lift hydraulic circuit on
the drill. A tractor with OPEN CENTER HYDRAULICS can
be used to pull this drill, but you must install "Open Center
Non Active Hydraulics Kit" Great Plains Part No. 194-143A.
This allows you to momentarily "charge up" The opener
circuit and "lock in" the pressure set at the pressure control
valves. This does not give the openers the full degree of
floation that active Closed Center hydraulics does.

The tractor must have at least three sets of remote hydrau-
lic outlets to operate: the opener lift circuit, the transport lift
circuit, and the transport fold circuit. Tractors with two sets
of remote hydraulic outlets can be used if you install a
"Two Outlet Tractor Hydraulic Kit" Great Plains Part No.
194-122A. This combines the transport lift hydraulic circuit
and opener lift hydraulic circuit with a double selector
valve mounted on the tongue of the drill. Drills equipped
with hydraulic markers, come with a double selector valve
to combine the marker hydraulic circuit with the Transport
fold hydraulic circuit. To operate a drill equipped with mark-
ers on a tractor with two sets of remote hydraulic outlets,
the opener lift hydraulic circuit and transport lift hydraulic
circuit are combined with Kit 194-122A, and the marker
hydraulic circuit and transport fold hydraulic circuit are
combined with the double selector valve in the marker kit.

The light package that your drill is equipped with, requires
that your tractor have the correct electrical connections.
Your tractor should be wired for a standard 7-pin electrical

connector which works with the tractor's flashers and turn
signals. If your tractor is not equipped with a 7-pin connec-
tor, please contact your local dealer for installation to your
tractor manufacturers specifications.

Tractor Drawbar Hookup

The Great Plains 30 ft 3 section drill has three hitch op-
tions: a clevis hitch, a small hole single strap hitch, and a
large hole single strap hitch. Use the single strap hitch for
tractors with clevis drawbars, and use the clevis hitch with
tractors which have single tang drawbars. In either case
always use a locking style drawbar pin sized to match the
holes in the hitch and drawbar.

!

WARNING!

Since this drill can have both positive and negative hitch forces
always use a clevis hitch or clevis drawbar with a locking style
hitch pin through the clevis.

The Great Plains 30 ft 3 section drill is designed to operate
with the lowest hitch hole in the tongue measuring about
18" off the ground when measured in FIELD (lowered) po-
sition. The mounting holes in the hitch have been offset so
the hitch can be turned over and bolted on in three posi-
tions, giving you six hitching positions. Use the screw jack
to raise the front of the drill tongue so the lowest hitch hole
in the tongue measures 18" off the ground. Adjust the drill
hitch to match your tractor drawbar. See Figure 2-9. The
drill hitch can accommodate tractor drawbars ranging from
15.5 to 32 inches high.

Your drill is equipped with a hitch safety chain. The safety
chain should be securely attached to the drill hitch and the
tractor whenever towing or planting.
