Great Plains Mfg., Inc.

Use the jack to raise and lower the front of the drill when
hitching to the tractor, and store it in the storage tube on
the top of the tongue as shown in Figure 2-10.

Tractor Hydraulic Hookup

For easiest operation your tractor should be equipped with
3 pairs of remote hydraulic outlets. If your tractor has only
2 pairs of remote hydraulic outlets, several circuits must be
combined using double selector valve kits. See Tractor
Requirements
in this section on page 17.

Always connect the opener lift circuit to the #1 remote hy-
draulic circuit or the circuit designed for HYDRAULIC MO-
TOR control. On many CLOSED CENTER or

NOTE: When hitching the drill to a different tractor,
check for a difference in drawbar heights. If the
heights are different, the hitch height must be read-
justed accordingly.

PRESSURE/FLOW COMPENSATED tractors the #1 cir-
cuit is the circuit designed to supply live hydraulic power to
remote locations. Connect the transport lift circuit and fold
circuit to the remaining remote outlets.

On OPEN CENTERED tractors or some other tractors
with FIXED DISPLACEMENT HYDRAULIC PUMPS, you
must install a Open Center Non Active Hydraulics Kit;
Great Plains Part No. 194-143A. This allows you to pres-
sure-up the opener circuit and run the drill with non-active
opener down pressure. If you are unsure about your trac-
tor's hydraulics see your tractor dealer for specifications.

!

WARNING!

Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin causing
serious injury. Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure before
disconnecting hydraulic lines. Use a piece of paper or card-
board, NOT BODY PARTS, to check for suspected leaks. Wear
protective gloves and safety glasses or goggles when working
with hydraulic systems. If an accident occurs, see a doctor im-
mediately. Any fluid injected into the skin must be surgically re-
moved within a few hours or gangrene may result.

CAUTION!

This drill has a negative tongue weight when unfolded and the
openers raised. Be certain that the drill is hitched securely to
your tractor drawbar and be certain the safety chain is securely
attached to the tractor before raising the openers and unfolding
the drill.

Bleeding the
Opener Lift Opener Lift Hydraulic System

Refer to Figure 2-11:

1.

Check that opener frames are locked in ROAD posi-
tion.

2.

Turn knobs on pressure-control valves completely
counterclockwise, then turn knobs clockwise three
turns.

3.

Turn knob on bypass valve completely clockwise for
no oil flow.

4.

Loosen six hose-end fittings at three locations on
opener-lift circuit:

both JIC fittings on the two 3/8" opener lift hoses ex-
tending from the end of each wing toolbar,

NOTE: Check the hydraulic fluid level is the tractor
reservoir and fill it to the proper level before starting
this procedure. Add fluid to the system as needed. A
low reservoir level may draw air back into the system
causing jerky or uneven cylinder movements. The
system capacity for the entire drill is approximately
4 1/2 gallons.
