Protection of passwords and passphrases

No password or passphrase is stored on the Rack PDU in plain text.
• Passwords are hashed using a one-way hash algorithm.
• Passphrases, which are used for authentication and encryption, are encrypted before

they are stored on the Rack PDU.

Serial access to the command line interface.

Remote access to the command line interface.

Description

Available methods:
• User name and password
• Selectable server port
• Access protocols that can be

enabled or disabled

• Secure Shell (SSH)

For high security, use SSH.
• With Telnet, the user name and password are transmitted as

plain text.

• Enabling SSH disables Telnet and provides encrypted access

to the command line interface to provide additional protection
from attempts to intercept, forge, or alter data during
transmission.
