Charging Jacket Overview

HVACR technicians typically cannot charge a cooling system with cold

outside weather. An outside temperature that is too low makes for a low

load condition at the condenser that is outside the design parameters for the

system.

This is more effective than blocking the incoming air with plastic or

cardboard because it does not restrict airflow around the compressor and

from our studies in the field, it maintains a safe acceptable compressor

temperature.

The charging jacket can only be used on TXV systems because for fixed

restrictor systems, outdoor heat load (dry bulb temperature) is a determining

factor for the amount of superheat to charge to.

For more details relating to installation and use of the Charging Jacket,

consult the operator's manual and any other literature included with the

Charging Jacket.

The charging jacket decreases the efficiency of the heat transfer from the

condenser to the outside environment. This effectively increases the load on

the condenser coil to bring it within designed operating conditions.
