Introduction

The Visara FEP-4600 platform allows the migration from 37x5 Front End Processors of
several features. The tools traditionally used (VTAM and NetView consoles) to monitor
the status of the network may still be used to some degree, but because of the differences
in technology, there may be some differences in the way these tools are used, or in the
way that the results need to be interpreted. Additionally, the FEP-4600 has a graphical
user interface (GUI) that may be used to provide a more comprehensive means for
managing the platform. This document provides the necessary information for the daily
use of the FEP-4600 using the tools available.

The direct user interface for the FEP-4600 is through a Web Browser, thus providing
access to monitor and control the unit from anywhere in the world, provided that the unit
is interfaced to the outside world. Easy to interpret panels using Red-Green-Yellow status
in a representation of the FEP-4600 hardware allows you to evaluate the overall current
status of the platform with a simple glance. If red or yellow status indicates a further
investigation of the FEP-4600 is required, a quick click or two of the mouse allows you
to drill down to the details of what is going on.

This manual is broken down into the following functional areas:

• Environmental and hardware requirements

• Use of the browser interface for viewing status and performing normal tasks

• Use of VTAM or NetView interface for interpreting status and performing normal

tasks

• Hardware Replacement Procedures
