Using Serial Communications

This section describes how to use the Serial Communications. Before you can apply
this section, The ML-Drive must be interfaced with a host computer through a RS485
Serial Communications Interface. The host computer must have the M-Host software
or its equivalent installed.

The ML-Drive comes factory pre-loaded with default Control Parameters for Serial
Communications Setup. These Control Parameters physically set up the ML-Drive to
accommodate the RS485 Serial Communications Interface. Generally, the default
settings are suitable for most applications and do not require modification. The factory
default Control Parameters for Serial Communications Setup are found in Appendix D.
These default parameters can be modified, using the Serial Communications Interface.

CP-70 DEVICE ADDRESS

The ML-Drive has a physical address which can be set from 1 to 32. Each individual
ML-Drive on a multidrop RS485 communications link needs a unique Device Address.
The address “00” will be globally accepted by all of the ML-Drives on a communications
link, however, they will not send a response message back to the host computer when
this global address is used.

CP-71 BAUD RATE

There are six different baud rates (data rates) for the ML-Drive. Enter the number, for
the required function, as listed below.

1 = 300 Baud
2 = 600 Baud
3 = 1200 Baud
4 = 2400 Baud
5 = 4800 Baud
6 = 9600 Baud
