Basic IP parameters and defaults

Directed
broadcast
mode

The packet format the router treats as a directed
broadcast. The following formats can be directed
broadcast:

All ones in the host portion of the packet’s
destination address.

All zeroes in the host portion of the packet’s
destination address.

A source-routed packet contains a list of IP addresses
through which the packet must pass to reach its
destination.

Maximum

IP load sharing

A feature that enables the router to balance traffic to a
specific destination across multiple equal-cost paths.
IP load sharing uses a hash mechanism based on
destination address, source address, and the protocol
of the packet to choose one of multiple paths.
NOTE: Load sharing is sometimes called Equal Cost

Multi Path (ECMP).
