Prerequisites

Each server must have an iSCSI initiator installed.

The initiator node name, or iqn string, for the iSCSI initiator. See

“iSCSI and CHAP

terminology” (page 243)

.

To use iSCSI VIP load balancing, you must use a compliant iSCSI initiator. Verify the initiator
compliance by going to the HP StoreVirtual 4000 Storage Compatibility Matrix at:

http://www.hp.com/go/StoreVirtualcompatibility

CAUTION:

Using a noncompliant iSCSI initiator with load balancing can compromise volume

availability during iSCSI failover events.

Characteristics of iSCSI server connections

For detailed information about using iSCSI with HP StoreVirtual Storage, including load balancing
and CHAP authentication, see

“HP StoreVirtual Storage using iSCSI and Fibre Channel” (page

241)

Description and requirements

Item

Name of the server that is displayed in the CMC. The server
name is case sensitive and cannot be changed after the
server is created.

Name

Optional: Description of the server.

Description

If you are using application-managed snapshots, you must
assign a controlling server IP address to each server you

Controlling Server IP Address

create in the CMC. See

“Using Controlling IP addresses”

(page 200)

.

Allows the server to connect to the client using an iSCSI
initiator.

Allow access via iSCSI

The name, or iqn string, of the iSCSI initiator. Open the
iSCSI initiator and look for the string there. You can copy
the string and paste it into the field.

Initiator Node Name

Configures iSCSI load balancing for the server connections.

Enable load balancing

Enables initiators to log on to a volume without
authenticating their identity.

CHAP not required

Requires initiators to authenticate before they can log on
to a volume.
