6 Adding Postage

Your Postage
Meter

Your mailing system contains a Postal Security Device (PSD) that
incorporates the latest technology approved by the United States Postal
Service to secure funds. The PSD (meter) contains the funds and performs
all calculations necessary to print meter stamps that comply with current
USPS standards. The PSD (postage meter) is located in your mailing
system’s IntelliLink Control Center™.

The Postal Security Device eliminates the need to perform physical
inspections thereby making the system easier and more convenient to
use.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) licenses your meter and requires
a modem inspection of the meter. Each time you refill your meter or check
your Postage By Phone

®

account balance, the Pitney Bowes Data Center

automatically performs a postal inspection.

If the meter in your mailing machine has not detected a modem refill
transaction in 90 days, the message “Inspection Due” displays on the
IntelliLink Control Center main screen. However, you can still use your
meter.

If the meter has not detected a refill in 120 days, the message “Inspection
Required” displays and you cannot use your meter.

In either case you must

perform a refill. If you don’t need to add funds at

this time, check your Postage By Phone account balance (see Checking
Your Postage By Phone

®

Account Balance in this chapter). This satisfies

the inspection requirements.

Your mailing system is designed to save you time and make adding
postage to your meter even more convenient. Postage By Phone is a
Pitney Bowes service that you use to add postage to your meter. You can
access Postage By Phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through your
IntelliLink Control Center. For more information, refer to the Postage By
Phone materials furnished with your system.

Postage By Phone allows you to:

Check your postage account balance.

Add more postage any time you need to – 24 hours a day, seven days
a week. Adding postage is a simple, quick and fully automated
process. Your mailing system is equipped with a built-in modem that is
set up to communicate with the Pitney Bowes Data Center.

If you need assistance, have your account number ready and call Postage
By Phone at 1.800.243.7800.
