This topic provides BC Z troubleshooting information.
BC Z pair tasks and display troubleshooting
The following table provides task and display troubleshooting information for BC Z pairs.
Corrective action Error
The RWC hangs, or BC Z pair task are
not properly performed. • Make sure all BC Z requirements and restrictions are met.
•
Make sure the XP7 storage system’s power is on and is fully functional.
• Check all input values and parameters to make sure that you entered
the correct information on the BC Z windows (such as P-VOL and S-VOL
IDs).
Select the correct volumes. The volume pairs are not displaying
correctly.
Check the error message for the failed task in the RWC. A BC Z error message is displayed in the
RWC during a task.
Note: You can use the RWC to set up email notifications of errors that occur
during pair user tasks.

Troubleshooting pinned tracks
If a pinned track occurs on a BC Z P-VOL or S-VOL, the XP7 storage system suspends the pair.
Contact your HP representative for assistance in recovering pinned tracks.
Troubleshooting extended copy times
The following table describes the causes for bottlenecks that result in extended copy times.
Response Cause
Reexamine the configuration.For information about
checking the MP usage rate, see the HP XP7 Performance
for Open and Mainframe Systems User Guide. A processor that has an MP usage rate that exceeds 80%
exists within the MP blade to which the P-VOL and S-VOL
are allocated.
Disable the option. The HOST I/O Performance option is enabled.
For more information about disabling, see “System options
that affect performance” (page 34) .
Make sure the configuration of the S-VOL’s HDD or external
storage is the same as the P-VOL’s. The S-VOL’s HDD or external storage performance is lower
than the P-VOL’s.
Check the error and make the necessary correction. The P-VOL’s HDD or external storage has an error.

Service Information Messages related to BC Z tasks
The XP7 Storage system generates a service information message (SIM) to notify users of events
that have occurred in the storage system. The XP7 storage system’s channel and storage path
microprocessors or the service processor (SVP) can generate SIMs. The SVP reports all SIMs related
