Registering journals in an EXCTG

When performing Cnt Ac-J Z copy operations between multiple primary and secondary systems,
you must register restore journals in an EXCTG. Cnt Ac-J Z uses the secondary EXCTG to maintain
data update sequence of master journals that are paired with restore journals in secondary EXCTG.
If no secondary EXCTG is configured, data update sequence is not maintained, and data consistency
is not maintained between the primary storage systems and the secondary storage systems.

A primary EXCTG is necessary if you need to reverse the primary and secondary sites after a
failure occurs. If you reverse the copy direction when no primary EXCTG is configured, data update
sequence is maintained on journal basis, but not on extended consistency group basis.

Prerequisite information

Set up primary and secondary EXCTGs using Business Continuity Manager prior to registering
journals.

Journals must be in Active or Stopped status.

Register master and restore journals in the separate EXCTGs.

When Cnt Ac-J Z pairs are cascaded with Business Copy Z, and the BC Z T-VOL and a Cnt
Ac-J Z P-VOL share the volume, data consistency cannot be maintained when between primary
and secondary systems, even when journals are registered in an EXCTG.

When Cnt Ac-J Z pairs are cascaded with Continuous Access Synchronous Z, and the Cnt
Ac-S Z S-VOL and Cnt Ac-J Z P-VOL share the volume, make sure you enable the time stamp
transferring option of all the Cnt Ac-S Z pairs in the journal for data consistency.

Journals that can be used in a 3DC configuration with three Cnt Ac-J Z sites cannot be registered
in an EXCTG.
