Storage Systems

XP Continuous Access operations involve the primary (main) storage systems and the secondary
(remote) storage systems (MCUs and RCUs). This document covers XP Continuous Access operations
in which the main storage system is an XP24000/XP20000 disk array and the remote storage
system is an XP24000/XP20000 disk array (or an XP12000/XP10000 disk array). The MCUs
contain the XP Continuous Access primary volumes (P-VOLs), which contain the original data and
are online to the host(s). The RCUs contain the XP Continuous Access secondary volumes (S-VOLs),
which are the synchronous or asynchronous copies of the P-VOLs. XP Continuous Access supports
all CUs, volumes, and hard disk drive options for the storage system. XP Continuous Access supports
RAID-1, RAID-5, and RAID-6 configurations.

To provide greater flexibility and to enable the storage system to be tailored to unique customer
operating requirements, additional operational parameters, or optional modes, are available for
the storage system. At installation, the storage system modes are set to their default values, so
make sure to discuss these settings with your HP service representative. The storage system modes
can only be changed by your HP service representative.
