1.

Connect to the MCU or RCU of the pair(s) to be split, open the XP Continuous Access main
window, and click the Pair Operation tab. You do not need to vary the P-VOL(s) offline.

To use Enable for S-VOL Write option, you must connect to the MCU and select the P-VOL of
the pair(s).

2.

In the tree, select the port, host group, desired CU, or the upper CU grouping.

3.

In the list, select the XP Continuous Access pair(s) that you want to split. When a port is selected
in the tree, the pair(s) can be selected from the current volume list.

Select either XP Continuous Access Synchronous or XP Continuous Access Asynchronous pairs
(not both). The pair status must be PAIR. Use the Display Filter as needed to display the desired
pairs (for example, select PAIR status and Async only) (see

“Display Filter” (page 69)

).

If a LUSE pair that you want to split has the status PDUB, perform the pairresync operation on
the LUSE pair first to change the status to PAIR, and then you can split the pair. PDUB indicates
that the status of one or more individual LDEV pairs within the LUSE pair is SMPL or PSUE (due
to some error condition).

4.

Right-click, and click Pairsplit-r to open the Pairsplit-r dialog box (see

“Pairsplit-r Dialog Box

(Synchronous and Asynchronous)” (page 134)

).

5.

On the Pairsplit-r dialog box, select the desired pairsplit options for the pair(s), and click Set
to close the Pairsplit-r dialog box. The preview list displays the requested pairsplit operation(s).

6.

Verify the requested operation(s) in the preview list. Make sure that the pairsplit options for
each pair are correct. The suspend kind option (S-VOL or P-VOL failure) and fence level pair
option (never, data, or status) determine whether the P-VOL will accept write I/O operations
after the pair is split.

To change one or more operations, select the operation(s) from the preview list, right-click,
and click Modify. To remove one or more operations, select the operation(s) that you want to
delete from the preview list, right-click, and click Delete. To cancel all operations, select all
the operations in the preview list, right-click, and click the Delete command, or click the Cancel
button.

CAUTION:

Do not use the P-VOL failure suspend kind option if the P-VOL is required for

system operation. Make sure to use the S-VOL suspend kind option, so that the P-VOL continues
accepting I/Os.

7.

To start the operation(s), click the Apply button.

If one or more operation(s) did not start normally, the preview list displays only the operation(s)
that did not start normally. An error code is displayed in the Error Code column in the preview
list (see

“Pairsplit-r Dialog Box (Synchronous and Asynchronous)” (page 134)

). To display an

error message, select one LU, right-click, and click Error Detail. After you see the error message,
click OK button to close the error message.

For XP Continuous Access Synchronous pairs, the MCU completes all P-VOL write operations
in progress and the associated update copy operations at the S-VOL before splitting the pair
so that the pair is synchronized at the time of pairsplit. For XP Continuous Access Asynchronous
pairs, the pending update option (drain or purge) determines whether the pair is synchronized
at the time of pairsplit.

8.

On the Pair Operation window, verify that the pairsplit operations are completed successfully
(PSUS status in the list). To monitor the progress of the pairsplit operation(s), click Refresh to
update the information in the list, or use the Detailed Information dialog box to monitor the
detailed status of each pair.
