Remote Web Console software and XP Continuous Access license code(s):

The Remote Web Console software is required for XP Continuous Access operations. The
XP Continuous Access software is a component of Remote Web Console product.

The XP Continuous Access license key code(s) are required to enable the XP Continuous
Access option(s) on the storage system. Separate license codes are required for each
storage system.

Administrator or XP Continuous Access write access to the Remote Web Console software is
required to perform XP Continuous Access operations. Users without Administrator or XP
Continuous Access write access can only view XP Continuous Access information.

You must operate the Remote Web Console software in modify mode to perform XP Continuous
Access operations. Users in view mode can only view XP Continuous Access information.

XP Continuous Access Asynchronous License:

To use XP Continuous Access Asynchronous, you must install not only XP Continuous Access
Asynchronous but also XP Continuous Access. You need license codes for both XP Continuous
Access Asynchronous and XP Continuous Access. Also, the license capacity of XP Continuous
Access and the license capacity of XP Continuous Access Asynchronous must satisfy the
following equation:

License capacity of XP Continuous Access

License capacity of XP Continuous Access

Asynchronous

License when combining XP Continuous Access and XP Thin Provisioning:

When you use a virtual volume of Thin Provisioning (TP-VOL) for XP Continuous Access P-VOL
or S-VOL, the capacity of the allocated pages for TP-VOL will be counted as the licensed
capacity of XP Continuous Access. Even if the actual licensed capacity exceeds the available
licensed capacity, you can use XP Continuous Access as usual for 30 days. However, after
30 days has passed, you can only split or release the XP Continuous Access pairs.

Requirements and Restrictions for Using XP Continuous Access

XP Continuous Access has the following requirements and restrictions:

One-to-one volume copy operations

Logical unit (LU) type (also called device emulation or type)

Consistency groups

Accessing XP Continuous Access P-VOLs and S-VOLs

Cache and NVS

Host failover software

Duplicate volume

Host system crash

One-to-One Volume Copy Operations

XP Continuous Access requires a one-to-one relationship between the volumes of the pairs. A volume
(LU) can only be assigned to one XP Continuous Access pair at a time. XP Continuous Access does
not support operations in which one P-VOL is copied to more than one S-VOL, or more than one
P-VOL is copied to one S-VOL. Because XP Continuous Access operates on volumes rather than on
files, multivolume files require special attention. For complete duplication and recovery of a
multivolume file (for example, a large database file that spans several volumes), make sure that all
volumes of the file are copied to XP Continuous Access S-VOLs, and use XP Continuous Access
Asynchronous to ensure update sequence consistency across this group of S-VOLs.
