For more information on using XP Auto LUN Software, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 Auto LUN
Software User's Guide
.

2

Create the XP Continuous Access pair after completing the XP Auto LUN operation or stopping the XP Auto LUN
operation.

3

The volume cannot be used if the corresponding XP Continuous Access Journal pair belongs to JNL group registered
with the storage system mode 707 being ON.

4

The volume can be used only when you resynchronize an XP Continuous Access pair or perform an RAID Manager
horctakeover operation. In this case, even though the corresponding XP Continuous Access Journal pair belongs to
JNL group registered with storage system mode 707 being ON, the volume can be used.

5

The volume can be used only when you resynchronize an XP Continuous Access pair or perform an RAID Manager
horctakeover operation, except the corresponding XP Continuous Access Journal pair belongs to JNL group registered
with storage system mode 707 being ON.

NOTE:

When XP Continuous Access Asynchronous, TrueCopy Asynchronous for Mainframe,

and XP Continuous Access Journal coexist in the same storage system, XP Continuous Access
Asynchronous pairs, TrueCopy for Mainframe pairs, and XP Continuous Access Journal pairs
cannot be mixed in one consistency group. If an XP Continuous Access Asynchronous pair has
been allocated to Consistency group No. 00, TrueCopy for Mainframe Asynchronous pair and
XP Continuous Access Journal pair cannot be allocated to Consistency group No. 00. XP Continuous
Access and TrueCopy for Mainframe share the same cache sidefile area.

XP Business Copy

XP Business Copy volumes can be assigned to XP Continuous Access pairs, and XP Continuous
Access volumes can be assigned to XP Business Copy pairs.

XP Continuous Access and XP Business Copy can be used together in the same storage system and
on the same volumes to provide multiple copies of data at the primary and/or remote sites.

Table 15 (page 42)

describes the host pair status reporting for XP Continuous Access volumes, XP

Business Copy volumes, and XP Continuous Access/XP Business Copy shared volumes.

Table 16 (page 42)

shows the currency of the data on a shared XP Continuous Access/XP Business

Copy volume based on XP Continuous Access and XP Business Copy pair status.

For further information on XP Business Copy, see HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 Business
Copy Software User Guide
.

NOTE:

HP recommends XP Business Copy for intra-storage system copy operations. If XP Business

Copy is not installed, XP Continuous Access (Synchronous only) can be used to copy within the
same storage system. This configuration requires at least one fibre cable loop.

For shared XP Continuous Access/XP Business Copy volumes, the XP Continuous Access pair
status is reported to the host if you query the XP Continuous Access P-VOL or S-VOL. To obtain
the XP Business Copy pair status, query the XP Business Copy P-VOL pair.

XP Business Copy supports multiple S-VOLs for each P-VOL. If you issue a pair status query to
an XP Business Copy P-VOL (for example, Detail), the status for only one XP Business Copy
pair is reported (the pair with the S-VOL with the lowest LDEV ID). To obtain the pair status
for the XP Business Copy pair(s) with the other S-VOL(s), you must direct the host query to the
specific S-VOL using the S-VOL’s LDEV ID in the host command. XP Business Copy displays
the port, GID (host group number), LUN, LDEV ID, and XP Business Copy pair status of all
S-VOLs associated with a P-VOL.
