Table 9 XP Continuous Access Pair Status

S-VOL Access

P-VOL Access

Description

Pair Status

Read/write

Read/write

This volume is not currently assigned to an XP
Continuous Access pair. When this volume is added
to an XP Continuous Access pair, its status will change
to COPY.

SMPL

(simplex)

Read only

Read/write

The initial copy operation for this pair is in progress.
This pair is not yet synchronized. When the initial copy
is complete, the status changes to PAIR.

COPY

Read only

Read/write

This pair is synchronized. Updates to the P-VOL are
duplicated on the S-VOL.

PAIR

Read only;

Read and write, if
the write enable
split option is
selected.

Read/write

This pair is not synchronized, because the user has split
this pair (pairsplit-r) or because the user has released
this pair from the RCU (pairsplit-S). For XP Continuous
Access Asynchronous pairs, the MCU and RCU keep
track of any recordsets that were discarded during the
pairsplit-r operation. While a pair is split, the MCU
and RCU record the data in P-VOL and S-VOL tracks
that are updated as the differential data.

When you split a pair from the MCU, the MCU
changes the status of the P-VOL and S-VOL to PSUS.
When you split a pair from the RCU, the RCU
changes the status of the S-VOL to PSUS. The MCU
detects this (if path status is normal) and changes
the P-VOL status to PSUS.

When you release a pair from the RCU, the RCU
changes the S-VOL status to SMPL. The MCU detects
this (if the path status is normal) and changes the
P-VOL status to PSUS. You must release the pair from
the MCU to change the P-VOL status to SMPL.

Read only

Read/write;

Read only if P-VOL
Fence Level option
is Data.

This pair is not synchronized, because the MCU or
RCU has suspended the pair due to an error condition.
For Async pairs the MCU and RCU keep track of any
recordsets that were discarded during the suspension
operation. The MCU records the data in the P-VOL
tracks that are updated while the pair is suspended as
differential data.

For XP Continuous Access Synchronous pairs, if the
MCU cannot keep the pair synchronized for any
reason, the MCU changes the status of the P-VOL
and S-VOL (if possible) to PSUE.

For XP Continuous Access Asynchronous pairs, if
the MCU detects an XP Continuous Access
Asynchronous suspension condition, the MCU
changes the P-VOL and S-VOL status (if possible) to
PSUE.

For XP Continuous Access Asynchronous pairs, if
the RCU detects an XP Continuous Access
Asynchronous suspension condition, the RCU
changes the S-VOL status to PSUE, and the MCU
detects this (if the path status is normal) and changes
the P-VOL status to PSUE.
