Changing the Status of S-VOL When the RCU is Disconnected

When RCU detects that all of the connections for MCU are disconnected, all the XP Continuous
Access Synchronous S-VOLs registered in CTG Number 127 will be changed to PSUE status.
The following details apply to this feature:

S-VOLs can be changed to PSUE status only when the Function Switch 30 is set on the RCU.

Only XP Continuous Access Synchronous S-VOLs registered in CTG Number 127 will be
changed to PSUE status.

It may take up to 10 minutes to change the pair status to PSUE if there are many pairs.

All S-VOLs will be changed to PSUE status even if the connection to the MCU is recovered in
the middle of the process.

When the MCU connection is disconnected for less than 1 minute, S-VOLs may not be changed
to PSUE status because the storage system does not detect the disconnection.

S-VOLs can be changed to PSUE status only when the S-VOLs are in Duplex or Duplex Pending
status. S-VOLs cannot be changed to PSUE status when the S-VOLs are in PSUS or SSUS status.

S-VOLs can be changed to PSUE status only when all the connections to the MCU are
disconnected. Therefore, S-VOLs cannot be changed to the PSUE status if

on

the MCU is set to a value other than 1.

After a power outage, all S-VOLs registered in CTG Number 127 will be changed to PSUE
status.

The numbers of target pairs can be up to 4,096.

If Write I/O is executed when P-VOL is in PAIR status and S-VOL is in PSUE status, the RCU
will not accept the I/O operation and the MCU suspends P-VOL.

Remote I/O (RIO), which is issued in the process of changing the pair status to PSUE, is
accepted by the RCU.

Resynchronization of a pair cannot be performed during the process of changing the pair
status to PSUE. You even cannot register a new XP Continuous Access synchronization in the
CTG Number 127.

Deleting a pair of XP Continuous Access synchronous can be done during the process of
changing the pair status to PSUE.

In a bidirectional, paired configuration (MCU to RCU/reverse direction: RCU to MCU), when
all connections of the reverse-direction pair to the MCU are disconnected for changing the
pair status to PSUE, the disconnection may not be detected.

Even if all the connections for MCU used by the XP Continuous Access Sync pairs are
disconnected, if the connections for MCU used by the XP Continuous Access Async pairs or
by the XP Continuous Access Journal pairs are connected, a failure suspend will not occur
and S-VOLs cannot be changed to PSUE status.

If the power is turned off to the MCU when the S-VOLs are in PAIR status will disconnect all
the connections for the MCU and all the S-VOLs, registered in CTG Number 127 will be
changed to PSUE status.
