Working with Hosts and Host Groups

Customers run applications on hosts (servers). Each host contains Host Bus
Adapters (HBAs) that connect the host to the SAN. Volumes are visible to the
hosts through the HBAs. This connection allows the hosts to read and write data to
the volumes. Hosts use paths to connect them to a storage utility.

About Host Groups

With Storage Provisioner, you can manage hosts by arranging them into groups.
Host groups allow you to organize and manage your host systems in some
meaningful manner, but they are optional. That is, you may want to group host
systems that are all in one location, or that are a part of a system such as
Accounting. With host groups, you can:

View existing host group information.

Create host groups.

Modify host group information.

Delete host groups.

Viewing Host Group

To view host group information:

In the Provisioning tab, select a host group displayed in the Navigation pane.
Host groups are identified by the following icon:

Host Group View

After you select a host group, the Content pane changes to display information
about that group. This information includes:

Number of Hosts – Displays the number of hosts that are in that group.

Total Storage Used – Amount of storage in gigabytes (GB) used by the group.

Storage Breakdown – Amount of storage in gigabytes (GB) for each service
level.
