Replacing a Storage System

When you need to replace one of your storage system controllers, Storage
Provisioner helps you make this transition. A storage system needs replacing
when the storage system is re-initialized, a controller is replaced (physically), the
storage system name changes, or the storage system is presented differently by the
HSG Element Manager or Command View EVA. Storage Provisioner no longer
recognizes the storage system as a managed storage system. The storage system
displays as offline in the Navigation pane.

To replace a storage system:

1. In the Storage Utilities tab, select an offline storage system listed in the

Navigation pane.

A storage system is identified by the following icon:

Your selection is highlighted. If the offline storage system has associated
volumes, the associated volumes highlight in a light color.

2. (Optional) Remove all associated volumes. Select the associated volumes and

click Delete on the toolbar.

The volumes display in the Unmanage Volumes group.

3. Click Discover on the toolbar.

When you click Discover, a window opens to continue the action since the
discovery of storage systems can take a long time depending upon the size of
the SAN. (See “

Discovering New Storage Systems

” on page 53.)

4. Select the offline storage system in the Navigation pane.

5. Click Delete on the toolbar.

When you click Delete, a window opens to continue the action.

If the storage system does not have associated volumes, choose one of the
following:

— Remove the storage system from management.

— Do not remove the storage system from management.

— Replace the storage system.
