Pair status definitions

Pair status descriptions are provided in the following table. Click Refresh View for the most current
data. The RWC status names shown here are also used in BCM.

S-VOL access

P-VOL access

Host status

Description

Status

N/A

N/A

S-VOL = SIMPLEX

The volume is not assigned to a pair. The
storage system accepts read/write for
volumes that are not reserved.

SIMPLEX

TVOL = SIMPLEX

NOTE:

If the volume is in SIMPLEX status,

the status is not shown In the RWC.

Read/write
disabled

Read/write disabled

S-VOL = SIMPLEX

TVOL = SIMPLEX

The pair is being deleted. Pair operations
are not allowed in this status. Upon deletion,
the status changes to SIMPLEX.

Deleting/TRANS

Read/write
disabled

Read/write-enabled

S-VOL = PPRI-PNDG

T-VOL =
PSEC-PNDG

The pair create operation has begun, the
initial copy is in progress.* The storage
system continues to accept read/write to the
P-VOL, but stops write operations to the

PENDING

S-VOL. No update copy operations are
performed.

Read/write-disabled

Read/write-enabled

S-VOL = PPRIMARY

The initial copy operation is complete, the
volumes are paired. The storage system

DUPLEX

T-VOL =
PSECONDRY

begins update copy operations from the
P-VOL to the S-VOL as needed. The P-VOL
and S-VOL in DUPLEX status may not be
identical.

Read/write-disabled

Read/write-enabled

S-VOL = PPRI-PNDG

The pair is in the process of Steady Split.
Any remaining differential data is copied to

SP-Pend/TRANS

T-VOL =
PSEC-PNDG

the S-VOL. When these updates are
complete, the pair is split. The split S-VOL is
identical to the P-VOL at the time of the split.

Read and write.
Can be varied
online.

Read/write-enabled

S-VOL = PPRI-PNDG

T-VOL = SIMPLEX

The pair is in the process of Quick Split.
P-VOL differential data is only copied to the
S-VOL in the background. Pairs cannot be
deleted.

V-Split/SUSPVS

Read and write.
Can be varied
online.

Read/write-enabled

S-VOL = PPRI-PNDG

T-VOL = SIMPLEX

The pair is split. The storage system stops
performing update copy operations from the
P-VOL to the S-VOL. Write I/Os are

Split/SUSPOP

accepted for S-VOL. The storage system
keeps track of updates to split P-VOL and
S-VOL, so that the pair can be
resynchronized quickly.

Read/write-disabled

Read/write-enabled

S-VOL = PPRI-PNDG

The pairresync operation has begun. The
storage system does not accept write I/Os

Resync/PENDING

T-VOL =
PSEC-PNDG

for S-VOL. When a split pair is
resynchronized in normal mode, the storage
system copies only P-VOL differential data
to the S-VOL. When a suspended pair is
resynchronized, the storage system copies
the entire P-VOL to the S-VOL. No update
copy operations are performed during the
pairresync operation.

Read/write-disabled

Read/write-disabled

S-VOL = PPRI-PNDG

The reverse pairresync operation has begun.
The storage system copies only S-VOL

Resync-R/REVRSY

T-VOL =
PSEC-PNDG

differential data to the P-VOL. No update
copy operations are performed during the
reverse or Quick Restore pairresync
operation. Write I/O operations to S-VOL
are rejected.
