3 Configuration operations

This chapter provides information and procedures for installing and configuring an ESAM system.

Configuration workflow

When you begin configuring the ESAM system, all planning tasks and considerations should be
completed. If not, consult the sections in

“Planning, system requirements, and recommendations ”

(page 12)

.

Set up the ESAM system in the following order:
1.

Connect the following hardware components:

The host to the primary and secondary P9500 systems.

The primary to the secondary system.

The quorum disk external system to the primary and secondary systems.

Optional external storage systems for storing pair data to the primary and/or secondary
systems.

2.

Install the following required software:

External Storage Access Manager

Continuous Access Synchronous

External Storage

3.

Configure the primary and secondary storage systems (MCU and RCU).

4.

Set up a quorum disk.

5.

Add the quorum disk ID.

Connecting hardware

You and HP representatives set up and connect hosts, storage systems, external systems for quorum
disks (and possibly additional data storage), configure ports, connect hosts and storage systems
for data transfer and so on.

Procedure 3 To connect hardware for ESAM:

1.

If you have external storage for storing pair data, connect the external systems to the external
ports on the P9500 systems.

2.

Connect the host to the primary and secondary systems using target ports on the P9500
systems.

3.

Connect the data path between the primary and secondary systems. Make the connections
from the initiator ports on the primary system to RCU Target ports on the secondary system,
and from the initiator ports on the secondary system to the RCU Target ports on the primary
system.
