A quorum disk ID must be registered.

The Continuous Access Synchronous pair is not registered to a consistency group.

CU Free must have been specified on the primary and secondary systems when the Continuous
Access Synchronous pair was created.

The P-VOL is in the primary system. If the S-VOL is in the primary system, execute the
horctakeover command on the S-VOL to reverse the P-VOL and the S-VOL of the pair.

Procedure 14 To change a Continuous Access Synchronous pair to ESAM pair:

1.

Access the MCU in Remote Web Console, then click Actions > Remote Copy > Continuous
Access Synchronous > Pair Operation.

2.

Make sure that you are in the modify mode.

3.

In the Pair Operation window tree, select a CU group, CU, port, or host group where the
Continuous Access Synchronous P-VOL belongs.

4.

Split the Continuous Access Synchronous pairs that you want to convert to ESAM pairs.

5.

On the Pairsplit -r dialog box, specify parameters you want and then click Set.

6.

Verify the setting(s) in Preview and click Apply on the Pair Operation window.

7.

Verify that the pair status is PSUS.

8.

In the list, select and right-click the Continuous Access Synchronous P-VOL(s), and then click
Pairresync.

9.

In the Pairresync dialog box, use the following settings:

For P-VOL Fence Level, specify Never.

In Change attribute to ESAM, specify Yes.

In Quorum Disk ID, specify a quorum disk ID for the ESAM pair.

10. Click Set.
11. Verify settings in Preview pane, then click Apply.
12. Verify that the Status column displays COPY for the pair that you converted, and that the Type

column displays ESAM.

To update the information in the window, click File > Refresh.

13. Access the secondary system, open the Pair Operation window, and verify that the Type

column for the S-VOL is ESAM.

CAUTION:

Application I/Os cannot be taken over in case of a failover until the window

displays ESAM for the S-VOL. Before moving onto the next step, wait for a while and refresh
the window to make sure ESAM appears.

14. Make sure that the host recognizes the ESAM pair(s). See

“Verifying that the host recognizes

new pair” (page 28)

for instructions.

CAUTION:

If this operation fails, check Continuous Access Synchronous pair options to make

sure that they have not changed. A failure can cause unexpected changes, for example, the P-VOL
fence level could change from Data to Never.

Supported RAID Manager commands

You can use RAID Manager to perform many ESAM pair operations—after the pair is created
using Remote Web Console.
