Check path configuration to the P-VOL and S-VOL using the multipath software command on
the host. Owner and non-owner paths should be set to the P-VOL. Refer to the documentation
provided with the multipath software.

The following is an example of path configuration displayed on Hitachi Dynamic Link Manager.
A volume in the primary system is displayed with four paths configured to the volume: two are
owner paths (Own), and two are non-owner paths (Non).

Splitting pairs

When the pair is synchronized, data written to the P-VOL is copied to the S-VOL. This continues
until the pair is split.

When you split a pair, the pair status changes to PSUS and updates to the S-VOL stop.

You can set an option to block updates to the P-VOL while the pair is split. This results in the
P-VOL and S-VOL staying synchronized.

If the P-VOL accepts write I/O while the pair is split, the primary system records the updated
tracks as differential data. This data is copied to the S-VOL when the pair is resynchronized.

The pair can be made identical again by resynchronizing the pair.

Prerequisite information:

The pair must be in PAIR status.

You can split a pair from either the P-VOL or S-VOL.

To stop write I/O to the P-VOL while the pair is being split, perform the split operation from
the P-VOL side.

When you split the pair, you can choose whether the S-VOL accepts write I/O from the host
during the operation.

Procedure 10 To split a pair or pairs:

1.

Access the MCU or RCU in Remote Web Console, then click Actions > Remote Copy >
Continuous Access Synchronous > Pair Operation.

You do not need to vary the P-VOL(s) offline.

2.

Make sure that you are in the modify mode.

3.

In the Pair Operation window tree, select the CU group, CU, port, or host group where the
pair volume is located.

4.

In the volume list, right-click the pair to be split and click Pairsplit-r from the menu. You can
split more than one pair by selecting then right-clicking more than one volume.

The Pairsplit-r dialog box displays. Information for the selected volume is shown by the Volume
field. When more than one volume is selected, the volume with the lowest LUN displays.
