- The same quorum disk ID is assigned to different external volumes separately
by the primary and secondary systems.

- On the paired CU side, the specified quorum disk ID is configured to a
different external volume.

- The quorum disk is blocked, or the path between secondary system and the
quorum disk has a failure.

The pair cannot be resynchronized using the Sync copy mode because the
S-VOL has the ESAM attribute.

The horctakeover command or the pairsplit -RS command cannot be executed
because of one of the following:

D004

The S-VOL is in PSUS or PSUE status.

The path between secondary system and the quorum disk has a failure.

An ESAM pair cannot be suspended because ESAM does not support the option
or the command cannot be accepted in the current pair status.

ESAM does not support the following options:

- pairsplit -rw

- pairsplit -RB

The following commands cannot be accepted when S-VOL is suspended:

- pairsplit -RS

- horctakeover

Recovery of a pinned track

If a hardware failure occurs when the storage system is in operation, data in the cache memory
may not be written to the data drives but remains in cache. When data remains in cache memory
for this reason, it is referred to as a "pinned track."

Recovering ESAM volumes

If a pinned track occurs on an P-VOL or S-VOL, the primary system suspends the pair. Use the
following procedure to ensure full data integrity of the pair while recovering the pinned track.

Procedure 39 To recover a pair on a pinned track:

1.

On the primary system, release the pair containing the volume with the pinned track.

2.

Recover data from a pinned track. Refer to the pinned track recovery procedures for your
operating system, or contact your HP representative for assistance.

3.

Connect to the primary system and resynchronize the pair whose pinned track is recovered.
Make sure to use the Entire Volume initial copy option.

Recovering quorum disks

Use the following procedure for recovery on the quorum disk. Host tools cannot be used to recover
a pinned track on the quorum disk.

Procedure 40 To recover a quorum disk with a pinned track:

1.

Connect to the primary system and release all the pairs that use the quorum disk with the
pinned track.

2.

On the primary and secondary systems, delete the quorum disk ID. If you cannot release the
ID, forcibly delete it. See

“Forcibly deleting a quorum disk ID” (page 43)

.

3.

Format the quorum disk and recover data from a pinned track. Refer to the pinned track
recovery procedures for your operating system, or contact your HP representative for assistance.
