5.

When the ESAM P-VOL and S-VOL are in PAIR status, swap and suspend the pair using the
Pairsplit -RS

command.

6.

Resynchronize the ESAM pair in the reverse direction using the Pairresync -swaps
command.

For information about the pairsplit -RS and pairresync -swaps commands, see HP P9000

Recovery using Continuous Access Journal P-VOL

You can recover the ESAM S-VOL from a Continuous Access Journal P-VOL (see

“Configurations

with Continuous Access Journal volumes ” (page 20)

).

A Continuous Access Journal pair is automatically split after you resynchronize the ESAM
P-VOL that is accepting host I/O, or after you perform resynchronize the pair in the reverse
direction. Resynchronize the Continuous Access Journal pair after the ESAM pair finishes
resynchronizing.

All steps in the procedure employ RAID Manager commands.

Procedure 34 To recover the S-VOL from a Continuous Access Journal P-VOL:

1.

Swap and suspend the ESAM pair using the Pairsplit -RS command.

2.

Swap and suspend the Continuous Access Journal pair using the Pairsplit -RS command.

3.

Resynchronize the Continuous Access Journal pair in the reverse direction using the Pairresync
-swaps command. The data in the Continuous Access Journal S-VOL is copied to the ESAM
S-VOL.

4.

When the Continuous Access Journal pair is in PAIR status, swap and suspend the pair using
the Pairsplit -RS command.

5.

Resynchronize the Continuous Access Journal pair in the reverse direction using the Pairresync
-swaps command.

6.

When the Continuous Access Journal pair is in PAIR status, split the pair using the Pairsplit -r
operation.

7.

Resynchronize the ESAM pair in the reverse direction using the Pairresync -swaps command.
The data in the ESAM S-VOL is copied to the ESAM P-VOL.

8.

When the ESAM pair is in PAIR status, swap and suspend the pair using the Pairsplit -RS
command.

9.

Resynchronize the ESAM pair in the reverse direction using the Pairresync -swaps command.

10. When the ESAM pair is in PAIR status, resynchronize the Continuous Access Journal pair using

the Pairresync operation.

For information about the pairsplit -RS and pairresync -swaps commands, see HP P9000
RAID Manager Reference Guide
. For information about Continuous Access Journal pair operations,
see HP P9000 Continuous Access Journal User Guide.

Recovery from quorum disk failure

When a quorum disk fails, it might be necessary to replace the quorum disk. The recovery procedure
you perform depends on whether or not this is the case.

Recover from the quorum disk failure as follows:

If the quorum disk must be replaced and reformatted while the MCU or RCU are receiving
host I/O, follow instructions in

“Replacing and formatting a quorum disk ” (page 41)

. In this

case, the pair is released and then recreated after the new quorum disk is ready. Host I/O
