You can set the number of pairs that the system will create concurrently. This is related to the
Priority field in this procedure. See the section on setting the number of volumes to be copied
concurrently in the HP P9000 Continuous Access Synchronous User Guide.

Stop Performance Monitor if it is running to avoid performance impact on the TCP/IP network.
Procedure 5 To configure the primary and secondary systems for ESAM:
1. Set the port attributes for ESAM. See the section on defining port attributes in the HP P9000
Continuous Access Synchronous User Guide.
2. Configure the primary and secondary systems and establish logical paths between the primary
and secondary P9500 systems. Follow the procedure in the section on configuring storage
systems and defining logical paths in the HP P9000 Continuous Access Synchronous User
Guide.
Configuring the quorum disk
The quorum disk stores information about the data in the P-VOL and S-VOL. The quorum disk is
used to determine which pair volume has the latest data when a failover is required.
This section explains the following:
•
How to configure a quorum disk.
•
How to configure port parameters for the quorum disk on the primary and secondary systems.
CAUTION: For data protection reasons, make sure that volumes except quorum disks are not
shared by two storage systems.
Procedure 6 To configure a quorum disk:
1. In the external storage system, prepare a volume for use as the quorum disk and system options.
Review
“Quorum disk requirements ” (page 14) .
2. Make sure ports in the primary and secondary systems are available for connection to the
quorum disk system, and that they are configured with the External attribute.
3. If paths from the primary and secondary system to the quorum disk are in Active/passive
configuration, make sure to set them to Active.
4. In both the primary and secondary systems, map to the quorum disk external volume. You will
do this using the Remote Web Console Ports/Host Groups and External Storage windows.

for Open and Mainframe Systems User Guide for details.) Specify the following parameters:
•
Cross-system paths. Configure at least two paths between the primary system and quorum
disk and two between the secondary system and quorum disk.

The following external volume parameters:
- Emulation type: OPEN-V.
- Number of LDEVs: 1.
- Cache mode: This parameter is not used for quorum disks. Either Enable or Disable can
be specified.
- Inflow control: Select Disable. Data will be written in the cache memory.
- CLPR: If you partition cache memory, specify the CLPR that the quorum disk uses. For
details about CLPR, see the HP P9000 Cache Partition User Guide.
- LDKC:CU:LDEV number: The number is used to identify the quorum disk for the primary
and secondary systems.
