A Typical Solution

A typical solution will have multiple dedicated stations for each module. For
example, there may be two full time scanners, two computers automatically running
Recognition, four computers dedicated to running the Correction module, another
four for Completion and a last computer automatically running export, as shown in
the following illustration. Depending on the documents being processed and the
requirements of the system some of the INDICIUS modules may not be used.

Batch Processing

When documents are first scanned they are collated into batches. These are sets of
documents that can be processed efficiently as a unit through the transformation
process. There may be a link between all the documents in a batch; for example, they
may have all arrived from a specific site, or they may be independent. A typical batch
will contain between 50-500 documents. The more work required by the
transformation process, the smaller the batch will be. This improves the efficiency of
the solution, especially where multiple stations of each module are in use, as shown
in the example in the section

A Typical Solution

. Rather than having one station

process a batch of 1000 documents, with another waiting for the next batch, two
separate stations could each process batches of 500 documents, therefore reducing
the time required to process the documents.
