Viewing Processing

The second of the two drop-down boxes controls whether the processing steps
carried out by Recognition are displayed in the processing display window (see
Figure 2-6). The level of user interaction required to progress processing is also
controlled by this option. The option is set to “No display” by default, and should be
left on this setting for normal operation. Any display operation will slow down
processing. However, as a debugging tool, it can be useful to view or step through
the processing.

Note

Recognition is designed to maximize processing speed rather than for user

interaction. Consequently, response times to the keyboard and mouse clicks may be
very slow when the module is in the middle of processing a batch.

There are four viewing options available:

Table 2-5. Viewing Options

Mode View

No display

No processing is displayed in the viewing
window. This will ensure the fastest
processing.

Show processing

In this mode the processing is displayed
without any pausing for user interaction.

Step processing

In this mode the speed at which the
processing occurs can be controlled. Once a
batch is received, processing is paused, and
pressing the Step button advances to the
next stage. Stepping in this way allows you
to check field placements, thresholding,
segmentation etc. If not enough of the
image is displayed, maximize the module
window and/or increase the Zoom level
setting. The Zoom level can be set to 100%,
50%, 33%, 25% or 20%. Ensure that you
deselect the Step processing option before
leaving the module unattended to prevent
the module from being paused and the
batch remaining in an unfinished state.

Step field

This mode allows you to step through the
processing, one field at a time.
