Typedown Search Types
The above search is an example of street typedown. You can also typedown on
organizations or PO boxes. This means that once you have selected the place or
postal code that you want, whatever you type in next will only relate to street names,
organization names, or PO Box numbers. This narrows the search even before you
have typed anything in.
The typedown toolbar indicates the current typedown search type.
Street Typedown
Street typedown usually involves three stages. After the initial search on a place or
postal code, QuickAddress will only look for street names. Once you have selected
the street name that you want, you can enter a property number to return the full
address.
You cannot type in the property number followed by the street name, because street
typedown cannot match on numbers until you have selected a street name.
Organization Typedown
Organization typedown usually involves two stages. After the first stage of
searching, on a place name or postal code, QuickAddress will only look for
organization names. Once you have found the organization that you are looking for,
QuickAddress returns the name and full address.
PO Box Typedown
PO Box typedown usually involves two stages. After the first stage of searching on a
place name or postal code, QuickAddress will only look for PO Box numbers. Once
you have found the number that you are looking for, QuickAddress returns the PO
Box number, the name associated with it if applicable, and the full address.
Typedown on PO Boxes is not recommended for searching large address databases.
For example, PO Box searching on United States data can be slow. PO Box numbers
are sorted as text strings rather than numerical strings. Therefore, a pick list of PO
boxes will not necessarily be in numerical order. For example, if you type “1” in the
Enter PO Box field, a list of returned matches might start at 1, and then move on to
10, 100, 101 etc., before listing 11, 110, 1100 etc.
