Similar to U235, but optimized for HPGe detectors. Only one intensity calibration measurement is
necessary.

3.5.2 LENG

This program supports semi-automated active length measurement (HM-4) using a miniature NaI
or CdZnTe detector.

3.5.3 RATE

This program supports measurements of count rates with any radiation detector (HPGe, NaI,
CdTe, CdZnTe and neutron counters). In the most convenient mode of operation only the menu
button "measurement" needs to be "pressed" to start a measurement and showing the count rates
in form of a LCD display and a bar graph.

3.6 Windows software

3.6.1 The program WinMCA
The program WinMCA has mostly the same features as MCA, but for a Windows 95
environment. It is written under Visual Basic in 32 bit code.
To install, copy all files to a temporary directory and then start setup.exe or install from
the floppy disks.
The main differences to DOS MCA are:
• supports saving of spectral data in *.tka format (only ASCII string of channel data, e.g.

for use in a spread sheet)

• supports saving of report files (no spectral data, but all ROI information, begin, end,

centroid, FWHM, FWTM, Integral, Area, Area error).

• Open/Save options can be accessed via File/Preferences
• Also some more options concerning display (graph style, color) and general program

options are found

• In MCS operation mode, different firmware / software acquisition modes can be found,

some of them offering absolute continuous measurements, avoiding gaps for file
saving. So, up to 65536 MCS spectra with up to 4096 channels can be measured in
series, which results in a theoretical maximum of 256 M channels in total.

• MCS mode offers the possibility to measure simultaneous MCS and amplitude

spectrum.

• Some bugs concerning the active groups, strip, compare and move have been fixed.
• PZC offers now also an automatic option.
• SCANDU option
• CdTe detector test option.
• Supports using signals at the HV inhibit connector for triggering

3.6.2 WinSPEC-I (for Inspectors)

WinSPEC-I was developed for the IAEA. It is derived from WinMCA. It is used for spectrum
measurements (equivalent to SPEC DOS programs, but with more advanced features; as e.g.,
integration of MGAU for U enrichment measurements.
Special attention was spent to the design of the GUI to make its use intuitive and easy.

3.6.3 WinSPEC-A (for Automation)
WinSPEC-A is an extended variant of WinSPEC-I. It was designed for unattended
measurements.
Special features of this variant are:
