The temperature for firing this crown has been set too low. The crown shows clear signs of insufficient
firing.

If the restoration exhibits a shining, true-to-nature appearance, it has been fired with all the firing
parameters set correctly.

The firing temperature for this restoration was set too high.

Examples of correct and incorrect firings

Glaze and stain firing with IPS Empress
Universal Shades/Stains, and Glaze

The IPS Empress Universal Shades/Stains, and Glaze have
been especially developed for the ceramic materials of the
IPS Empress System from Ivoclar Vivadent. They can be used
for the following techniques:
– IPS Empress staining technique
– IPS Empress layering technique
– IPS Empress 2 / IPS Eris for E2 layering technique

Stain and characterization firing
Extrude the desired IPS Empress Universal Shade/Stains from
the syringe and dilute it to the desired consistency using the
Universal Glaze and Stain Liquid and mix. There are
14 IPS Empress Universal Stains available for individualized
characterizations.

Do not mix the IPS Empress Universal Shades and
Stains in paste form with the powder materials.
Moreover, they must not be applied during

layering, i.e. between unfired dentin and incisal materials.

Applying the stains in a thin layer.

Before starting the staining procedure, make sure
the restoration is free of dirt and grease. A
roughened surface is favourable.
