Introduction

The PRISM 3301 is an intelligent, SNMP-managed T3 Data and Channel Service
Unit. It provides a standard High-Speed Serial Interface (HSSI) DTE port and one
network DS3 port that can use readily available coaxial transmission media in
private or public long-haul T3 networks.

An RS-232 serial port provides remote (modem) or local access for unit
configuration, provisioning, and monitoring. The protocol format used to
communicate to these ports is industry standard ASCII.

The PRISM 3301 can be managed using a terminal emulation program or SNMP
using telnet. It is configured by setting parameters for the network and DTE
interfaces and the local and network management ports.

In addition to unit configuration capabilities, the PRISM 3301 can generate alarm
messages, perform system tests and loopbacks for diagnostics. Loopbacks include
Local DTE Loopback, Local Line Loopback, and Remote Line Loopback.
