Emergency Alert System

EAS Overview

EAS stands for Emergency Alert System. It is a system used in the United
States to notify the general public of pending or imminent situations such as
weather emergencies. It can also be used by the President of the United States
to deliver a message.

All television stations in the US are required to transmit EAS messages.
Cable head-ends are also required to transmit EAS messages on all
programmed channels. For more information on EAS, see the FCC website
or the websites of the EAS receiver manufacturers.

A televised EAS alert consists of two components: an on-screen crawl
displaying the nature of the emergency and the regions affected in the
broadcast area, and an audio message up to two minutes in length.

Imagestore EAS Option

Imagestore 750 supports the Emergency Alert System providing the relevant
IS-750-EAS licence is installed. The supported EAS receivers are:

Sage ENDEC Model 1822

TFT EAS 911


The EAS option provides a mechanism for the Imagestore 750 to receive the
EAS message data from an external EAS receiver and generate the required
crawl and voiceover. It also provides additional “branding” capabilities,
including full macro programmability and keyer control.

The EAS option requires three external interfaces to the Imagestore 750:

1. The EAS receiver connects to the Imagestore 750 over an RS232 serial
