3.4.7.4 Verify Configuration of Tasking Option
The TASKING/PERFORMANCE option is used to determine the relative responsiveness of PC and server
applications that are running at the same time. You can configure the tasking option as follows:
To access configuration of this option::
1. Navigate to the Control Panel.
2. Click on the System icon.
3. In the resulting System Properties window, click on the Advanced tab.
Depending on your type of Windows operating system, proceed as described in Section 3.4.7.4.1 or Sec-
tion 3.4.7.4.2 . The setting described in the appropriate sub-section is the only setting which will ensure
proper processing of background (server) applications.
To achieve the best results, the Performance option should be configured, as described in Section
3.4.7.4.1 or Section 3.4.7.4.2 , prior to installation of the Micro-PWC system software. If necessary, this
setting will be adjusted to the correct value by the Micro-PWC system software after it is installed.
3.4.7.4.1 Setting the Performance Option in Windows XP
1. In Windows XP, In the Performance pane of the Advanced tab, click on the Settings button.
2. In the Performance Options window, click on the Advanced tab.
3. in the Processor Schedulng pane, select the Background Services option.
3.4.7.4.2 Setting the Performance Option in Windows 2000
1. In Windows 2000, on the Advanced tab, click on the Performance Optimization button.
2. In the Performance Options window, select the Background Services option.
3.4.7.5 Verify Configuration of Desktop Options
Two of the Desktop/Display options can affect the performance of the Micro-PWC system:
• the Dragging option
• the Screen Saver option
To access configuration of these options:
1. Navigate to the Control Panel.
2. Click on the Display icon.
These options may be correctly configured as described in Section 3.4.7.5.1 through Section 3.4.7.5.3 .
3.4.7.5.1 Setting the Dragging Option in Windows XP
1. In the Display Properties window, select the Appearance tab.
2. Click on the Effects button
3. In the Effects window, locate the checkbox labelled Show window contents while dragging.
4. Verify that the small checkbox for this item does not have a check in it.
3.4.7.5.2 Setting the Dragging Option in Windows 2000
1. In the Display Properties window, select the Effects tab.
