4.1.3 Licensing During Initial Startup

License information must be entered during the first startup of the Micro-PWC system after installation.
The initial startup will proceed more quickly if you locate this information first and have it available for refer-
ence. The license information consists of a list of features on one or more license forms which are shipped
with Micro-PWC system product. The license form contains the following for each licensed feature: a fea-
ture name, a version number, an expiration date, a number of users, a license key, a user string, and a
machine ID.

When the first Micro-PWC system window is opened, a window containing the following message will
appear:

No valid Micro-PWC software license found.

Do you want to enter license information now?

Click on Yes, and a window titled Micro-PWC Maintenance Utility will appear. Click on the Add button in
this window, and a pop-up window titled Add New Feature will appear.

Locate the drop-down combo box labelled Feature in the Add New Feature window. (A drop-down combo
box
consists of a text entry box and drop-down pushbutton; clicking on the pushbutton provides access to
a drop-down list box of selections.)

Click on the drop-down pushbutton, then click on the Micro-DCI item in the drop-down list to select it. The
only value which you must enter for the Micro-DCI feature is the 20 character license key. The license key
is not case sensitive. All of the other values for the Micro-DCI feature are predefined. After entering the
license key, click on Ok. If you entered the license information correctly, the pop-up window will close and
the information will be added to the list in the main window. If the information has not been entered cor-
rectly, an error message will appear.

The machine ID for the Micro-DCI feature must match the number of the hardware key attached to the PC.
This value should appear in the box labelled Machine ID when you first open the Add New Feature win-
dow. The machine ID can also be displayed by selecting on License Admin > Show Machine/Host ID from
the menu bar. If the machine ID is not displayed, then the hardware key may not be attached, or the hard-
ware key driver is not available (which will happen if the PC has not been restarted since the Micro-PWC
system software was installed).

After entering the Micro-DCI license, use the same procedure to enter keys for any optional features you
may have.

After you have completed entering license information, select License Admin > Exit from the menu bar. A
confirmation window will be displayed; click on Yes in this window. If you entered a valid license for the
Micro-DCI feature, the Micro-PWC system startup will proceed.

To change or add license information at a later time, you can select the Micro-PWC Maintenance Utility

from the Micro-PWC menu item.

4.1.4 Micro-PWC Network Service Startup

All of the Micro-PWC system windows make use of the Micro-PWC system network service for communi-
cation, database access, and other support. If you open a Micro-PWC system window and the Micro-PWC
system network service is not yet running, it will be started, and a window titled Micro-PWC Network
Startup
will appear. A counter in this window will update each second while the Micro-PWC system net-
work service starts. The time required for the network service to startup can vary widely, depending on the
number of other Micro-PWC system nodes on the network and the amount of configuration information to
be synchronized between them. The progress of the startup can be monitored by clicking on the Log but-
ton, and periodically clicking on the Refresh button in the resulting pop-up window.

The Exit button in the Micro-PWC Network Startup

window will close the window, but it does not cancel the

Micro-PWC system network service startup.
