4.3 The Capuser Account

During installation of the Micro-PWC system software, a Windows user account named capuser is created.
This is intended to be used as a "captive" account for plant operators, dedicated to running the Micro-PWC
system display applications.

The important features of the capuser account are listed below.

1.

Display startup: When you log on using the capuser account, the Micro-PWC system display
applications are started. The System Window, Process Alarm Window, and one or more
Operator Windows are opened. (There may be a delay while the Micro-PWC system network
service is started.)

The very first time you log on using the capuser account, some configuration changes are
automatically made to the account. A pop-up window with the following message appears:

Completed setup of capuser account.
Logging off now to save setup.

2.

Taskbar: After logging on to the capuser account, the Taskbar is not displayed so that only
Micro-PWC system applications can be run.

3.

Autologon: If the Start Micro-PWC Displays Automatically

option was selected during Micro-

PWC system installation, the capuser account will automatically be logged on during system
startup. This is implemented using the Windows autologon feature.

Logoff from the capuser account is accomplished by selecting Menu > User > Exit item from
the System Window. Logoff can also be performed by pressing the <

keys simultaneously, and then clicking on the Logoff button. Note that if the autologon feature
is enabled, the capuser account will immediately be logged on again.
The autologon feature can be disabled in either of two ways:

a.

Hold the

key down during logoff, and the normal Windows logon window (which

prompts for username and password) will eventually be displayed. At this point you can
log in using any Windows user account.

b.

Alternatively, you can select Setup from the Micro-PWC program group, then de-select
the Start Micro-PWC Displays Automatically installation option.

After a user other than capuser has logged on to Windows (for example, if you log on as
administrator), the autologon feature is disabled. To re-enable it, you must logon as capuser
again, or you must again select the Start Micro-PWC Displays Automatically installation option
from the Micro-PWC Setup program.

4.

Password: The default password for the capuser account is

passwd. If you want to change the

password, select the Setup program from the Micro-PWC program group, and click the
Password button on the Installation Options window.

NOTE

The Micro-PWC system software doesn't have to be run from the
capuser account; it can be run from any Windows user account
which belongs to the Windows Administrators group.

NOTE

With the proper Micro-PWC system access level, a user can go to
the System Window and select Menu > Utilities > Other
Applications
to restart the Taskbar.
