become popular. The main difference from the traditional recording/mixdown
technique being that recorded tracks are not monitored through the MONI/-
AUX 5-6 controls. After recording, the M/L-TAPE switch next to the GAIN
control is set to TAPE (i.e. the tape signal is sent to the module EQ), the ST

assign switch is pressed, and the fader and PAN controls used to mix the
recorded track with other previously recorded tracks. This way the mix is built
up as each track is recorded. This has the advantage that EQ and effects can be
applied to recorded tracks straightaway, plus you get to hear what the finished
mix will sound like sooner. If EQ and sound effects are important to you dur
ing the writing/composition stage, you may prefer this technique to the tradi

tional recording/mixdown method.

1. Connect all tracks and other signal sources to the RM800.

Be sure to assign all signals you wish to modify using the EQ and the AUX

1-3 effects to the input section (see page 14) by setting the M/L TAPE

switch at the top of each module to the correct position:

Input

M/L TAPE up

M/L TAPE down

MIC/LINE

The signal source connected to this
input is assigned to the input section.

The signal source connected to this
input is assigned to the monitor (MO

NI/AUX 5-6) section.

TAPE IN

The signal source connected to this

input is assigned to the monitor (MO
NI/AUX 5-6) section.

The signal source connected to this

input is assigned to the input section.

All other signal sources should be assigned to the monitor section

Note; Since there is no GAIN control for the TAPE IN connectors, try to connect

only line-level signals to these jacks during mixdown. Synthesizers, modules,
samplers, effects processors, and drum machines qualify as such.

.

Press the MONI/AUX 5-6 M/L TAPE switches to assign the monitor

signals to the AUX 5-6 busses.

3. Press the TO ST switch in the Aux Return section to assign the AUX 5-6

busses to the stereo signal.

4. On the Stereo Module, press the ST switch.

5. Connect the effect to be shared by certain input and monitor signals

to the AUX SEND/RETURN 4 jacks.

All other effects (AUX 1-3) are exclusive to the input section.

Note: AUX 4 can only be used by one section of an RM800 module. If an RM800
channel module is used as input and monitor section, AUX 4 will be assigned

to the monitor signal.

6

.

Assign the effects to the stereo signal by pressing their ST switch (Aux

Return section).

7. Raise the Stereo Module's fader to the '0' position.

8. Again, check the input level of the signals connected to the MIC/LINE

inputs and correct using the GAIN controls and PAD switches.
