process to finish before proceeding.

If an action is not valid or some inconsistency exists, management firmware displays a
message that states the problem and suggests how to resolve it. Refer to

8.9

Partitioning Messages

for more information.

Caution

Resolve all warnings and inconsistencies that occur before proceeding with
any partitioning action.

8.3. Submitting Partitioning Actions

Perform partitioning actions using the partitioning page in the remote console interface
for the system. The following rules apply when you submit an action:

Submit only one partitioning action at a time. Do not submit additional actions until
the previous action is completed.

When the action is complete, the system refreshes the page automatically and
enables the Submit button for the next action.

For some partitioning actions, you might have to stop and restart the partition before
the action takes effect. For example

-

When you add a stopped cell to a running partition, the new cell resources are

not available until you reboot the partition.

-

A new primary boot cell selection does not take effect until you reboot the

partition.

AC power must be on for all cells in the system, and all Service Processors must be
available before you submit partitioning actions.

Caution

Submitting partitioning actions when AC power is off for any cell is not
recommended except in maintenance situations. The result of such an action
can be inconsistencies that cause unpredictable behavior. You must resolve
inconsistencies manually before proceeding.

The Hot Add Components command is enabled when you manually enable cell
components or clear all faults in a partition. You must click Hot Add Components
on the partition summary page when it becomes enabled to make the cell
components available for use.
